Island Waters: Clean Water for Aquidneck Island

Island Waters is a new collaboration that brings together all three Island municipalities -- Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth -- and three Island-wide, environmentally-focused non-profit organizations, working towards restoring clean water on Aquidneck Island.

Led by the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission (AIPC), with funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this project aims to: reduce nutrient pollution from stormwater and agricultural runoff; restore coastal, surface, ground and drinking water quality; restore habitat and ecosystem functions; and enhance economic opportunity and jobs related to clean water.

As a partnership, we are setting out to achieve these goals here on Aquidneck Island, and through best practices aspire to serve as a model that can be replicated throughout Southeast New England and elsewhere in the U.S.
